nature in the front yard

I just saw this fine Big hawk sitting about 25 feet up in the old elm tree out in the front yard ..It's got a fabulous rusty breast and is quite large, unfortuntely this photo does not do it justice.
Think it might have been checking out my neighbors cat for a possible lunch.

I am all to familiar with hawks we had one almost take my chihuahua right out of the yard.
They are beautiful birds though. Cool that you got a picture of it.

Very cool hawk. They are tough to photograph, so you did good. I spotted two, a mated pair, in my locust tree in the backyard, got a few pics but no great ones. It got so quiet while they were there, it is normally a rowdy place with all the song birds and doves, but they were suddely out ofsight and quiet

We have a lot of hawks here, and a couple of eagles, too, that we only get to see when we're out kayaking. Amazing birds!

I LOVE hawks too! All birds, but I am especially fascinated with birds of prey. We have a local rehabilitation and education center for raptors and I love to go and see them up close. They will look you straight in the eye. :)

I do know that according to the raptor center birds of prey, specifically hawks can only carry about half their body weight and they tend to weigh only between 2-4 pounds so the likely hood of them acutally carrying off the cat isn't so good....that being said i wouldn't tempt him with a small dog or kitten!!!! lol....
