It's coming ...The Holidays are on the way!!

I have been neglecting my poor little blog..Lori just reminded us to Blog..so before heading to get some sleep...I give you a rambling thought for the day...

Tomorrow is December 1st..how the heck did that get here soo quickly..and in one month, the Year will be over..a whole year has zoomed past.. and 2013 is looming..
Of course, we have that pesky Mayan calendar stuff to deal with...I've got my money riding on us still being here on Dec 22nd..and 23rd etc..same ol' same ol'.. there seems to be a lot of varying thoughts what the ending of that calendar could mean.. the idea that something might happen to awaken us as a world is  interesting...but I am not one to want life overly dramatic..a nice steady pace is much preferred...no hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, rising tides..aliens from another planet ..etc
I would ,however, like to place a request in  to the Universe...just a small thing ..
that everyone on the planet  become 10% smarter overnight ,BAM!..and 25% more compassionate..that's not a huge wish but I do think it might prove to be earth shaking.. yea I know ..not gonna happen...still a girl can wish..
sooo...

Bead Soup Book Tour Day 4

I can't believe the day is finally here ..we've waited so long to share this amazing book of Lori Anderson's ..having to keep this secret, for almost 2 years, was soo difficult..
It has been my good fortune to be a participant in 6 of the Bead Soup Party Blog hops and they were all great fun. So you can image how thrilled I was when Lori invited me to be a contributor in her Bead Soup Book..

The soup mix I received was created by the very talented Barbara Bechtel ..I fell in love with the bird "fly" focal and immediately knew what I wanted to do..showcase it in a  different manner and also to do something that was completely out of the box for me..
That focal shouted "I want Filigree"! Uh ok? I'd never done even one tiny thing that was wrapped filigree or anything else filigree..but when the muse is shouting at you..well, every beader knows, one must obey The Muse...oh and it's sparkly too..yep that's out of the box.

The basic rules for Bead Soup Party is that you must use the focal and the clasp..it's up to you to use the coordinating beads or items from your stash. The vision of this design, already forming in my head, didn't lend itself to the warm tone beads..and while I didn't want to be a pill,I was compelled to go forward with the image in my head...so those extra beads were returned to Lori . I loved what she created with them,  showing what a very different piece could be created using similar ingredients.

Bet you are surprised..similar focal ,size and color... Very different necklaces.

Oh and one other thing...my hat is off to all of you who submit pieces to magazines..
writing out the instructions was more difficult than I ever imagined.

Heather Powers received this soup mix from me ..of course none of us knew which person  would receive the ingredients we'd sent in..
You will just have to wait until it's Heather's turn to share what she created with these..

To help celebrate this wonderful book of Lori's ,I'm giving away this ceramic bee connector, in rusted jade glaze..it would make a fun Fall bracelet.

Leave a comment below by 9pm October 8th to be entered into the drawing. ..* if you are having to post by anonymous comment, you need to leave your name , and a way to contact you for the drawing.
please visit the blogs of some of the contributors to read about their experiences.

Bead Soup Party #6 Reveal Day #1

Are you ready to party?

It's here...Bead Soup Party reveal day #1.

Lori Anderson is the creator and master mind of this wonderful blog hop, the Bead Soup Party, I have been fortunate to participate in all 6 events. Thank you Lori, for all your hard work that has made this event possible..This latest hop has 400 participants, there will be 3 separate reveal days which should make it easier for us to make our way around all the blogs and have time to leave comments and check out the wonderful creations.

I was soooooo fortunate to be partnered with the amazing Cindy Wimmer of Sweet Bead Studio, she is a multi-talented person and I Love her copper wire work..I have to admit having this in mind when I selected ( made) the ingredients for her soup.
Cindy sent  a wonderful grouping of silver soup..that in itself was out of my normal range..
something that continually comes to my mind with each Bead Soup Party is that I am not an accomplished Beader, I don't have the tools or stunning stash that I've come to see many of  you do( bead hoarders).
I can't always lay my hand on the right jump rings, the right gauge wires in the proper metals( as in,that bead hole is too small for 20g, where is the silver 22g, shoot it won't take a patina)..akkk. It's really amazing that I get anything put together that doesn't look like the dogs dinner.
This time I decided to do a little funny thing..I held back a few of the beads from the soup sent to Cindy just to see what it would look like for partners to use some of the same components in their Bead Soup pieces.
Ok...let's get to it..Ta Da!!

Cindy sent a lovely vintage brooch as the focal, I encircled it with turquoise rounds to showcase the focal.
The silver tones in the soup ranged from a soft pewter to shiny silver , adding a darkening patina helped to blend them together. I split the Green Girl clasp between the 2 pieces, the hooky part in this necklace, the link went into the bracelet.

In the necklace- brooch focal, silver discs, chain, and 1/2 the clasp, from the soup... the textured turquoise ceramic ovals and orange jade nuggets are similar to part of the soup sent to Cindy. I added a braided brown leather piece to the back with the chain to visually bulk it up and balance the look of the large focal.

close up on the focal..it was a little trickier than I imagined to wire that floating, circle of turquoise beads to the brooch.
The rest of the discs and the link part of the clasp when into the bracelet, half wire wrapped , half knotted smooth leather.
Here is the soup I received from Cindy( Cindy's photo)..Please visit Cindy's blog to see THE most amazing things she created from the soup she received..Here

As a Thank You for visiting my blog I will be giving away a copy of Beading for the Soul.

Just  leave a comment to be entered..since the Bead Soup Party is continuing on for 2 more reveal days I will wait until everyone has had time to visit before doing a random drawing.
Please visit these other participants to see their amazing Bead Soup pieces.

Bead Soup Party Ingredients

It's almost time for the Bead Soup Party reveal day , this time, due to the huge sign up response, the reveal day needed to be split between several days. There will be 3 different reveal days, different participants work being shown on each of these days, allowing us time to view the amazing work ,without becoming overwhelmed and losing our places in the blog hops. This is something I seem to always do.

I was so fortunate to be paired with the amazing Cindy Wimmer of Sweet Bead Studio. She sent the soup ingredients in a beautiful jewelry bag..love it.

The ingredients are all metal..this is different from the other soups I've worked with..

These wonderful ingredients open up a world of possibilities..Patina or not, add color or stay in a neutral palette??????

The focal is a vintage silver tone brooch..it has tiny slits and openings where the designs has been raised..
I intend to use these for connecting bits, rather then drill or punch into it.
The clasp is a beautiful Shibuichi Green Girl piece..what's not to love about Green Girl..all her pieces are fabulous.
Please come back on July 28th, which is my reveal date, to see what I've created from the soup mix Cindy selected.
